Where you work - Sheffield International Venues

Latest news

(14.02.12) UNISON representatives along with the other recognised trade unions, met at the backend of last year with SIV senior management where we were informed that Sheffield City Trust were to restructure its operations. This is in order to put themselves in a better position to compete more effectively with other organisations that are currently set up more efficiently. Because the Council had not given approval to this proposal the information that we were given was embargoed. This meant that until the Council had given the go-ahead to the proposal, consultation could not commence.

You will have all received a letter from SIV by now explaining the reasons behind this restructure. Following is a brief overview of where we are on the proposals and why we think this restructure is in the best interests of you our members.

As the letter states, there are tax advantages to be gained by the employer. This is why we believe we can work with SIV senior management as they have stated that this will safeguard jobs. As you will be aware SIV are one of the Councils key partners and therefore have been asked to contribute to the Councils budget reduction program. It is no secret that other partners have chosen the easy option of simply cutting services, employee’s terms and conditions and jobs.

We have been assured by SIV management that there will be no changes to your current terms and conditions and pay. The only thing that will change is the name of your employer which we have been told is to be 7 Hills Leisure Trust.

It is vitally important that we have workplace representatives in SIV. Please become active in your union. If you are interested in becoming a rep please contact the Branch Office on 0114 2736307 or alternatively email the Branch on lgbranch@sheffunison.org.uk
