Council Budget has major implications for Care4You service (April 2012)

The Council’s Budget for 2012-13 was agreed at a Council meeting at the start of March.
Amongst a package of over £50M in cuts were listed a number of cuts to Care Services.

These included:

  • A reduction of 400 hours (=12 full time posts) in STIT this year and at least another 400 hours next year.
  • A reduction of 1000 hours (=30 full time posts) this year for complex needs.
  • The proposed closure of Sevenfields and Hazelhurst intermediate care centres with the resulting loss of 70 jobs.
  • Proposal to reduce the Night Care Visiting Service on a phased basis (despite having to cover for failed external providers).
  • Not filling vacancies in Community Support and two vacant technician posts in City Wide alarms.
  • Loss of 2.5 posts in business support.

Prior to this a series of staff consultation meetings were held in Jan, Feb and March. Lead Steward for Care4You, Carol Ring, attended all of those meetings on behalf of our members.
Management were intending to implement these cuts on a phased basis around the proposed closure of Sevenfields and Hazelhurst at the end of June.
